Original Article Andrade et al Stent versus CABG: a meta-analysis Arq Bras Cardiol. 2019; 112(5):511-523 Figure 7 – Study Flow Diagram. RCT: randomized controlled trial; CABG: coronary artery bypass grafting; LAD: left anterior descending; PCI: percutaneous coronary intervention. PUBMED search (543 records) 610 records 557 records screened through title and abstract 43 selected for full text review (17 RCT) 40 articles (15 RCT) included for quantitative synthesis (meta-analysis) 3 Excluded 2: One Trial with majority one vessel disease 1: One Trial of PCI with retroperfusion 514 Ecluded 401: Not a RCT 97 Not a comparison Stent vs CABG 16: 8 RCT trials of isolated LAD EXCLUDED 53 (duplicate records) COCHRANE LIBRARY search (67 records) Conclusion PCI using stents when compared to CABG was associated with a trend to lower mortality at 30 days, similar one-year mortality, lower incidence of stroke up to one-year, and a trend to higher long-term mortality. There was no long-term mortality difference in non-diabetics and in LMCAD patients. In terms of composite adverse outcomes, the SYNTAX score and diabetes were the most important factors to consider when choosing between the two methods of revascularization.
